New Renault Scenic line-up kicks off at €26,000 for the Irish market.

What's the news?

Renault has launched the new fourth-generation of Scenic and Grand Scenic on the Irish market and prices start from €26,000 for a five-seat Scenic and €28,400 for the seven-seat Grand Scenic. Both cars come with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard and both can be upgraded with a big 8.7-inch portrait-style touchscreen in the dashboard (standard models get a seven-inch horizontal touchscreen as standard).

Other equipment includes one-touch folding rear seats (which can be activated from the touchscreen) and what Renault claims is the biggest boot in its class. Safety is high on the agenda, and some of the equipment includes Automatic Electronic Braking System (AEBS) with Pedestrian Detection (which is standard on all models), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) and automatic high/low beam for the headlights. The Scenic has scored the maximum possible five stars on the EuroNCAP crash tests.

Exterior

Those 20-inch wheels allow Renault to push the Scenic's wheelbase further out than on the previous model, improving cabin space, but they also allow braking distances to be cut, by as much as five per cent in wet conditions, according to Renault. Renault Ireland says that the tyres for these big wheels will cost the same as those for much more common 17-inch alloys and that the sidewalls have been designed to minimise damage from potholes.

Interior

Inside, the centre console has a huge 13-litre storage box and it can slide between the front and rear seats. Renault says that the Scenic's 572-litre boot and the Grand Scenic's 596-litre boot are the biggest in the class, though.
