All-new Mazda CX-5 set for LA

Mazda says it has ‘refined all aspects’ of its compact CX-5 SUV.

What's the news?

Mazda is going to show off the all-new CX-5 SUV at the forthcoming Los Angeles Motor Show.

No further cast-iron details on the car as yet, as this is Mazda teasing the CX's debut, but the carmaker does say it has 'refined all aspects' of the design and technology to 'deliver new dimensions of driving joy'.

Expect its exterior styling to exhibit the latest interpretation of the Kodo - Soul of Motion ethos, and also expect the Mazda to use the same Skyactiv-G and Skyactiv-D engines as seen elsewhere in the company's range.

Whether it's actually all-new or not is debatable, though, as it isn't unheard of for Mazda to facelift a vehicle twice during its lifetime. And as the CX-5 only dropped in 2012, with one raft of revisions in late 2014, this could be less of an overhaul than we imagine...

Anything else?

Alongside the CX-5 at LA will be the MX-5 RF and examples of the Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-3, the existing CX-5 and the CX-9, which is a large SUV sold in America. There will also be a world premiere of its Prototype race car and technology exhibits of the 2.0-, 2.5- and turbocharged 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G engines.
