Renault's Grand Tourer Paris concept hints at future interior design direction.

What's the news?

Renault has unveiled an all-electric GT concept at the Paris Motor Show. The two-seat Trezor features a high-output powertrain drawing heavily from the French company's Formula E exploits, and the 260kW motor (over 350hp) gives a sub-four second time for the 0-100km/h sprint. Well it would if it wasn't a concept... The Trezor is the latest instalment in what Renault calls its 'Life Flower' design philosophy, and it gives plenty clues to the future styling direction to be taken by the company.

The chassis is composed of a carbon tub with tubular steel frames fore and aft, and the roof is also carbon fibre in a bid to offset the weight of the powertrain components. A drag co-efficient of 0.22 is quoted, and the centre of gravity is said to be just 25cm above the ground.

It's quite a sleek-looking machine and stands at just over one metre tall with a long wheelbase and wide track, but the most striking aspect (and the one furthest removed from production) is that mad clamshell roof. This reveals an equally outlandish interior, featuring lots of red. A wooden dash developed in partnership with KEIM-cycles is composed of several thin strips of ash, and is claimed to be as strong as modern composite materials.

Anything else?

A fully autonomous driving option is featured alongside normal and sport modes, and this takes full advantage of the numerous screens and multimedia features to give a luxury experience for the occupants. Renault says that its mainstream cars will feature fully autonomous tech at some point beyond 2020, but whether they will look as futuristic as the Trezor remains to be seen.
