Only 20 to be made, each one already sold.

What's the news?

Ferrucio Lamborghini would have been 100 years old this year, and Lamborghini have been celebrating all year with various special edition cars and events. Automobili Lamborghini was founded after Ferrucio purchased a Ferrari and found himself distinctly unimpressed by the fit and finish, so it's apt that the latest Sant'Agata creation is an exercise in conspicuous consumption.

Entitled the Centenario Roadster, it is the result of the Italian company's engineers taking a grinder to the regular Centenario. Well, it's a little more complicated than that. The carbon fibre monocoque and body panels are carried over, but the front windscreen is specially designed to reduce drag and turbulence for the occupants. Elsewhere, it's a similar story to the coupe, so you get rear-wheel steering, advanced aerodynamics and 770hp.

Except you don't. Why? Because they're only making 20, and predictably, they've all been sold already. For over €2m each. This is a little sad, because most of these missiles will spend their lives in a cocoon, their huge custom Pirellis going to waste. Everything on this car is designed to astound. The customary V12 engine now revs to 8,600rpm, and can power the Roadster to a top speed of over 350km/h, while dispensing with the 0-100km/h sprint in under three seconds. The forged aluminium wheels feature a ducting effect to enable the carbon ceramic brakes to stay cool. The active rear wing can change position and angle depending on speed and driving mode. All in all, a serious machine.

Anything else?

To further stand out from your common-or-garden Aventador et al, the Centenario Roadster comes in an exclusive ''Argento Centenario'' hue, and the interior can be specified in any colour and finish from Lambo's customisation program. You can even get two interior cameras to record your passenger's reaction as you stop from 100km/h in 31m... Sadly, seeing one of these beasts being driven as intended will prove to be a rare sight indeed, but the advanced technology is a portent for what to expect from Lamborghini's slightly more obtainable models in the near future.
