Porsche creates Cayman GT4 Clubsport

Porsche creates Cayman GT4 Clubsport
Clubsport is race-specific version of Porsche’s Cayman GT4.

What's the news?

Following a debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Porsche is doing an even more focused version of the stunning Cayman GT4 - and this one, the Clubsport, is purely for competition purposes.

It's a vehicle for 'recreational and club racing', which means there are no road-going versions (more's the pity), although it uses the production GT4 as its basis. That means a 385hp mid-mounted 3.8-litre straight-six, with a six-speed version of the PDK double-clutch adapted for racing.

From thereon in, Porsche has been getting busy rummaging through the bin marked 'special parts'. A rear-axle mechanical locking diff devised specifically for motorsport is drafted in, while the lightweight strut front axle is lifted wholesale from the 911 GT3 Cup racer. Even the rear suspension gets transverse arms from the same machine, with lighter strut componentry than the GT4's road set-up.

Stopping power is handled by 380mm steel discs all round, with single-piece, six-piston aluminium callipers at the front and four-pot equivalents at the back. The ABS has 12 stages of adjustment and the car's traction control has been recalibrated to work with slick tyres.

Inside is a welded rollcage, a racing bucket seat with a six-point harness and a standard 90-litre fuel tank, although options include a 70-litre item or an FT3 100-litre safety tank instead. The Cayman GT4 Clubsport has 18-inch, five-bolt forged alloy wheels with Michelin tyres all round, and it weighs just 1,300kg.

Anything else?

Available from €111,000 plus country-specific VAT, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport can be ordered right now direct from Porsche Motorsport in Weissach. Porsche is planning to homologate the car for further race series in 2016, including the VLN Long Distance Championship Nürburgring, the SRO GT4 series, the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA, the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada and for club races run by the Porsche Club of America, as well as for other club-level meetings around the world.
