I had the lovely new Audi A6 on test last week. Cracking car. It was the 2.0 TDI model, which will undoubtedly be the biggest seller here and it's a decent alternative to the BMW 520d.
Anyway, I drove it to Ennis to the in-laws and got their point of view. Their opinions matter for several reasons (not just because I have to be nice to them...). First up, my brother-in-law drives the previous generation Audi A6 (see below in the background).

Naturally he loved the new car. A few things he noticed in comparison to his car is that the new one is better equipped as standard, including lovely leather seats. He also spotted that it now comes with split-folding rear seats. They're mighty useful, though the boot is huge anyway.
My father-in-law has a keener interest, as he'll soon be in the market for a new car. Right now he's deciding between the new Volkswagen Passat or the Audi A6. I know, they don't seem like direct rivals on price, but there you go. He has an old Passat right now (see below).

Unsurprisingly he loved the Audi. He was a little bewildered by the array of new buttons and controls and gadgets in comparison to his car, but no doubt he'd get used to all that, and the press car is fitted with about €10,000 of extras, including excellent satnav.
It'll be a few more months before he actually makes a purchase, but the A6 is very much in the running.
It's been relatively quiet on the news front today, though we have a couple of interesting stories accompanied by dark and moody studio photographs that are all the rage.
First up is the stunning Peugeot SxC (see what they did there?) concept. Despite appearances this SUV is about the size of a Volkswagen Touareg and it may even go into production. The bad news? It may only be for the Chinese market. Link to the full story below the image.

Do you know what? I really didn't want to like the Golf R. Why would you want to spend €50,000 on a dicreet Golf that has 70 more horsepower than the €36,000 GTi?

Yes, this is an enormous amount of money to spend on a Volkswagen Golf, which most people will barely look twice at on the street. But the thing is, that this is perhaps the beauty of this car. It is wonderful because of its discretion. Around town the DSG transmission is a breeze and on the motorway, if you want to…
Today's news round-up is a little earlier as I've got to go do some parenting...
The run up to the Auto Shanghai and New York Auto Show feature heavily. Paddy was quick to the chase this morning with a piece on the new Audi Q3 crossover. Full details and a set of images have been released and we believe it'll start at €33,000 in Ireland. Click here for the full story.

The Q3 is unlikely to have much of an impact on 2011 car sales, but we're glad…
